It’s Sabrina here again – and today I want to share a couple of my Silly Snails cards. I love this set – they have been crawling onto quite a few of my cards recently. I like that they come in three different sizes and are not all going in the same direction.
My first card is a more artsy one – I used watercolours on a piece of Tyvek, and then shrank and distressed it with my iron. Don’t let it come in direct contact – not good for the iron even if the Tyvek looks pretty cool afterwards. As soon as I had made this piece, I knew I wanted to use it as a setting for one of the snails…I used silver embroidery thread to create a little trail for him, and green cotton to embroider flower leaves and stems. The flowers are just punched from scraps of old backgrounds, with a sequin and French knot to finish them off.
For the snail, I stamped him with Memento Chocolate brown, coloured him with Polychromos pencils and glazed his shell with Glossy Accents after cutting him out.
I used a sentiment from Whimsical and Kind Sayings, stamping it with the same brown ink on a kraft card base, and then adding sparkle with a Sakura Stardust pen. To finish, I just added a couple of score lines.
My second card uses the same sentiment set and two of the Silly Snails, but is totally different in style. I made it to send to someone who has a lot of problems to deal with just now. I often see snails climbing up our back wall if I go out late at night – and that inspired this card, which is meant to give the encouragement that even when we don’t see the end of a problem (brick wall) in sight, we’ve just got to “hang in there”.
This time I stamped the snails in black ink and coloured them with pencils. The brick wall was created with an embossing folder, and I added a bit of die-cut grass that was lying on my desk to give the earthbound snail a little grounding.
