It’s Sabrina again, this time sharing a little paper doll on a card using the bamboo bookmark from the Bookmarks and Sentiments plate. The bookmark does include some little kanji, but I’m afraid I covered them up with my little doll. with her black hair and fringe (bangs), she reminds me of this picture painted by my grandmother which always hung in my bedroom till I left home.
I started out by stamping the bookmark image on white card using Versafine Olympia Green, and embossing it with clear embossing powder. Then I trimmed it down, and spritzed it with some gold shimmer spray, and matted it onto a black base.
To keep with the bamboo theme, I used distress inks, various homemade misters and the gold shimmer spray to make a wrinkle-free distress background, which I then stencilled with a bamboo stencil from The Crafters Workshop, using Forest Moss distress ink. I trimmed this to size and matted it on black card, and then added a sentiment from the Whimsical and Kind Sayings set.
My little paper doll was creating using a tutorial on SplitcoastStampers which can be found here. I don’t have any bobby pins lying around, so when I make these, I usually just use a couple of bits of florist’s wire to make the “neck”. I used a scrap of origami paper for the sash, but to create the black and gold dress, I used a piece of one of the fabric papers from Art Neko, with gold swirls on a black background. I can’t find the exact one I used, but any of these papers would make a beautiful dress. The paper folded beautifully with no need for anything more than a bone folder to ensure a good crease.
And here’s the finished card – a double helping of bamboos and plenty of shimmering gold. I sponged the card base with Peeled Paint distress stain and then rubbed it lightly with a gold metallic rub-on.
Inside I added a matching bookmark, tucked into a little corner pocket of the same origami paper as my doll’s sash.
I wish you all a happy weekend. Please visit again next week to see the beautiful creations the team have been busy creating.
