Watercolored Valentine Hearts

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!  It’s Holly posting today, and I’m excited to share this watercolored Valentine hearts card with you.  I stamped this gorgeous double heart image from Art Neko’s A405 Valentine and Love Stamps sheet onto watercolor paper and watercolored it with Daniel Smith’s Pyrrol Red paint.  Yes, I just used one color of paint.  The vibrancy of the red changes depending on how much water you add while you are painting.

After the hearts were dry, I cut out the image and adhered it to a piece of white cardstock that was embossed with some diagonal stripes.  I wanted to mimic the black and red strips in the corners of the hearts.  To give the stripes inside the hearts more impact, I colored the alternating stripes with a black Sharpie marker.  The white striped panel was adhered to a layer of black cardstock and then to a red card base.  I stamped the sentiment from A405 Valentine and Love Stamps sheet and affixed it on top of the hearts.  Some white buttons with black and white baker’s twine were added to each of the hearts.

This was a fun experiment with watercolor paint, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.  I’ll have another painted card to share with you next week.  Enjoy today with your special Valentine!

Oh wow, Holly, what a sweet image that is, and so beautifully coloured to give it a soft, old-fashioned feel just perfect for Valentine’s.
