Shoson’s Five Egrets in Falling Snow

Egrets in the Snow on kraft

It’s Sabrina here; I know we are just starting to tiptoe into Autumn, but the card I wish to share with you today has more of a winter feel, featuring  a group of  five egrets in falling snow.

For this card, I used the Shoson Five Snowy Egrets with Wee Calligraphy stamp. I love the simple elegance of these birds!

I wanted to do something a little different with the stamp, as a change from stamping it on a white background. So I decided to stamp the image on kraft cardstock and add colour only to the birds. Normally I tend to colour birds according to their real life appearance, so I considered adding a little black and yellow to the egrets’ beaks and legs, but I decided that they would look better left snowy white.

I stamped the image with white ink on kraft cardstock, and embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I simply used white re-inker diluted with water to colour in the birds.
At this stage, it was beginning to remind me a little of parchment craft, or some of the beautiful decorated cakes I have seen, so I decided to stick with that simplicity, and just added a panel of vellum embossed with falling snow,to pick up on the stamped image. I used a Sizzix embossing folder, which has a much heavier snowfall at one end of the design; however, I wanted the snow to be falling evenly down the whole space, so I used a stylus and manually embossed some more snow to fill in the gaps. I used a white pen to edge the vellum and add a little definition to it.
Then I used eyelets to attach the vellum to a kraft base, attached the egret panel with foam tape,  and finished the card off with a doodled border.

I hope you enjoyed this Five Egrets in Falling Snow card. Be sure to check back soon to see what other beautiful creations the team have been working on to share with you.

Sabrina, this is STUNNING! I love the white on kraft. The softly colored egrets look wonderful in the midst of the falling snow. The white pen doodling around the edges is a perfect accent along with your embossed vellum. Absolutely beautiful!!
