Mermaid on Glittery Scales

Hi everyone!  It’s Holly posting today, and I am here to share my Mermaid on Glitter Scales with you.  This seems to be the summer of mermaids, doesn’t it?  Everyone is making cards with mermaids, and I am in awe of the gorgeous mermaid card that Hetty created last week.  Take a look at her Sea Scenery card here.  I wanted to try something completely different for my mermaid card today.

I was playing around embossing paste and glitter, and I made this background on a whim.  I started by mixing equal amounts of clear embossing paste and glitter – one batch was turquoise and the other batch was a soft green.  I then spread the blue and the green glitter pastes directly onto some white cardstock.  I just smeared random areas with green, then other areas with blue, and let it dry.

I mixed up another batch of clear embossing paste and turquoise glitter and spread it through a stencil right on top of my previously made background.  You can see the green and blue glitters peeking out through the spaces between the scales in the background.  It is soooooo glittery!

My mermaid comes from the A198 Mermaids and Ocean Life stamp sheet.  There are lots of wonderful fish and shell stamps that coordinate beautifully with all the mermaids on this sheet.  To make sure my mermaid matched my background, I colored her with Copic markers in shades of blue and green.  Then I applied glue to her hair and her tail and covered it with the same turquoise glitter.  Once the glue was dry, I set her down on a bed of sand (kraft cardstock strip) and added a couple sprigs of glittery greenery and some white coral pieces.

Have you made a mermaid card this summer?  Go shopping at Art Neko and get your mermaid stamps and ink them up before summer is over!  🙂

You are a real glitter queen, Holly. This sounds like a good way of keeping it somewhat contained, and I can just imagine how beautiful it is in real life. I love that you gave her sparkly hair to match.
