Woodgrain Chickadee

Hi folks, it’s Holly posting today.  I am sharing this Woodgrain Chickadee with y’all, and this was such a joy to color.  I started by stamping the ATC Chickadee from Art Neko’s State Birds and Flowers, Set 6 sheet with some permanent black ink.   I sponged the background with a soft blue color first.  After that was completely dry, I then pulled out my Zig Clean Color markers and went over the pine needles with two different colors of green and I colored the branches with two shades of brown.  I had to Google chickadees to see how to color this little cutie, and I used both brown and gray markers to color him.

After my piece was completely dry, I cut it out and matted it with some black cardstock.  Some brown cardstock was embossed with a woodgrain embossing folder and I sponged the raised areas with some brown ink to help them stand out.  I matted that woodgrain embossed paper with a white cardstock layer before wrapping some linen thread around the bottom.  Once the thread was secure, I adhered this piece to a black cardstock base.  The watercolored chickadee panel was adhered with some foam tape over the linen thread.

Have you seen all the fabulous State Birds and Flowers stamps in the Art Neko store?  There is one for every state in the US, so go look for your state!  🙂

You can’t go wrong with birds – I think that like snowmen, it would be impossible to have too many bird stamps. That little chickadee is just sweet; I can imagine the piney smell as he picks away. I had to buy a book of North American birds to know how to colour some of the images I have. I’m sure it’s fine to use artistic licence, but I like to know what they’re meant to look like! Your chickadees are the same family as our tits.

This is adorable! I love the way you layered off centre and used a lovely woodgrained embossed background. I’d forgottenabout these stamps….wish list getting longer…..!
